The game is the first zankou game with a game world that is based around a regular street. Like most games that are focused on one style of cooking, the game tries to emphasize the simpler aspects of the style of cooking. The game plays like an old school cooking game with some cool and creative touches. Traditional Zankou Chicken is cooked with a lot of garlic and it is very simple. There are three main styles of zankou cooking: Traditional, Modern, and the new ‘zankou’ style. You control a chicken and you can add sauce and spices to the chicken and make it taste like a zankou. The game is a unique take on the zankou style of cooking. Also, if you haven’t read the zankou story yet, check out my review of the game. If you’re interested in a more detailed review of the zankou, I posted some notes on the blog. It was good, but I think the garlic sauce version will be a bit better.Įven if you’re not a garlic lover, the sauce is worth trying.Īlso, if anyone’s curious about the Zengs blog, check out the site, that’s where your zankou chicken is being cooked. The base sauce is a bit spicy, so I added some soy sauce and sesame oil to counteract that. Zeng’s blog also has a recipe for a garlic sauce, but it is not spicy like this one, and the chicken flavor is really subtle.Īs it turned out, the garlic sauce recipe was the one I used for my zankou chicken, so I made that. The sauce is thick and spicy, and the chicken flavor is subtle and understated. She took the traditional ingredients of zankou and did something new with them, and it works perfectly. I found a recipe on the blog of a fellow Korean food blogger called Zeng. Zankou is an appetizer dish that I’ve used before to great effect, and it’s a relatively new dish in the Korean restaurant realm, so the only thing I was missing was a good sauce recipe. The sauce has a light, tangy, slightly spicy flavor that goes well with the chicken flavor. During my time at this restaurant trying to enjoy my meal, I observed several patrons not necessarily happy with their orders, or the service.Zankou is a Korean dish made from dried, roasted chicken, garlic, and sesame paste. I'm not sure if it was because of the hour, the time of the year, the location, or simply that quality was overlooked, but this seemed like an anomaly. We ordered a whole chicken to-go, also, and instead of it coming in a "thermal bag" (combo paper/aluminum foil?) that was used in the past, now it comes in a plastic container that I doubt can keep the bird warm for later consumption. I've never had a bad experience with the quality and taste of the food here however, this time my tri-tip shawarma wrap was prepared in a substandard manner: beef instead of tender was chewy, the pita bread was burnt so it would flake off when handled, and to add insult to injury the wrap was more like a mini-wrap (it was so small). Hopefully, this way I will avoid the waiting, the food being undercooked, orders being botched, and having to scarf down. It seems like lunchtime is really busy for this restaurant (good for them) I don't think I will be going back, though, at this hour.
